The digital divide is a growing challenge in this pandemic. Access to new remitting platforms and financial sector tools for remittance receiving households. Beyond thinking of equipping migrants with working skills, narrowing the digital and financial skills divide is crucial in limiting inequality in the access to the benefits on migration and development. Some thoughts here: https://bit.ly/3c74OQG 01:37:07 Jason GAGNON - OECD DEV: Thank you to the Jordanian representative from Sahab. Forced displacement in developing countries is an important component of local migration management. Local authorities are doing great work in this field, but also need support. So what local measures are donor countries applying to forced displacement in developing countries? Check out our recent study: https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/development/towards-more-sustainable-solutions-to-forced-displacement_d1d44405-en 01:47:24 (S) Stephanie Loose: d 01:48:09 (S) Stephanie Loose: Dear all, thanks for your interest. Please share any questions you have for the panelists in the chat, we will have a 01:48:12 (S) Stephanie Loose: Q and 01:48:20 (S) Stephanie Loose: A after the next speaker 01:51:50 Hakima Haithar: I would like to commend Jordon. Their model of integration is very impressive and has not increased xenophobia and discrimination. A model which other countries should start looking into. Hakima (Global Coalition on Migration). hhaithar@gcmigration.org. 01:56:00 Gilda Borriello: Dear all, this is the last speaker before the Q&A session. if you have questions or comments, please write them in the chat! Thank you :) 02:00:18 Shirin Lira, PROKAS, British Council, Dhaka: Good afternoon all from Bangladesh. Though we are focusing on inclusion of migrants in countries of destination which is extremely important, however, I also feel inclusion of returnees in local development in Counrties of Destination is also important. Often returnees are excluded from community engagement, development planning specially women migrants due to social stigma towards them as well as other factors. Returnees can significantly contribute to local development as well as fair migration process. 02:02:02 fambaye Ndoye--UNSAS/ATUMNET from Sénégal: salut à tout les participants, panélistes et modérateurs, 02:04:31 Abeer: Staring by thanking you for this useful and informative workshop . 02:05:08 fambaye Ndoye--UNSAS/ATUMNET from Sénégal: Monsieur Wilson Kayom merci pour ces initiatives, question : y'a t-il des actions spécifiques pour les réfugiées femmes et enfants?? 02:08:10 Abeer: I would like to highlight the importance of spatial integration if refugee camps with close by municipalities. By time camps develop into more permanent communities so often informal in terms of physical and economic development. 02:08:58 Abeer: to what extent this matter is being looked at at the initial stage of camps setups and development? 02:10:05 Abeer: Abeer al Saheb , Jordan- currently self employed Ueban Planning Consultant 02:17:06 Jack Amick, UMCOR: An example of a creative migration partnership: In the face of reduced refugee resettlement in the U.S. and the virtual closure of the U.S. Mexican border, UMCOR facilitated a partnership designed to assist asylum seekers already residing in three cities in the U.S. Through this program, legal assistance is provided by JFON (Justice For Our Neighbors), while case management and facilitation of access to local services is provided by CWS (church world service). 02:17:46 (S) Prof. Gyonggu SHIN: To Ali Asaf: How many 45000 out of whole population? 02:18:44 Shirin Lira, PROKAS, British Council, Dhaka: 5 I would like to share our experience to work with local authorities supporting migrants. PRKOKAS is FCDO funded programme in Bangladesh to increase the protection of labour migrants through aligning the interests of multiple stakeholders to improve migration governance. PROKAS is piloting 8 Grievance Management Committees (GMCs) in 6 migrants prone districts which have proved to be very successful, till June 2020 GMCs received 674 complaints of which 343 complaints have been resolved with BDT 14,634,800 recovered. During Covid crisis GMC’s are helping returnees who faced stigmatisation from their communities after their return due to Corona crisis, providing migration information and helping for reintegration. Their impact has also been far beyond the resolution of individual disputes, providing a public forum where the public, local authority and recruiting agent/intermediaries meet together and local justice is seen to be done, reinforcing the value of open, fair and inclusive institutions. 02:25:02 Shirin Lira, PROKAS, British Council, Dhaka: Would be good if is there any examples of inclusion of women workers particularly domestic female migrant workers inclusion in community 02:25:57 (S) Ali-A'saf - Sahab, Jordan: https://zoom.us/j/94717390283 02:26:26 Philippines-Emma Sarne: The Philippines has embarked on a massive repatriation program at the onset of the pandemic and we have repatriated some 400,000 of our overseas workers whose jobs abroad have been affected by the pandemic. But repatriating them did not stop at our borders. We have established one-stop shops at the provincial level and regional task forces that have ensured the safe return of our migrants not just to the Philippines but to their receiving hometowns and provinces. 02:26:33 Philippines-Emma Sarne: As part of our planning strategies, local governments such as the City Governments of Quezon City and Iloilo City have initiated their own reintegration programs and projects for migrants, and committed local resources to support national government efforts even before the pandemic, all in anticipation of the vagaries of the international environment. 02:27:06 (S) Ali-A'saf - Sahab, Jordan: we have a total population of 183 k in sahib with 45k Syrian, 25k other nationalities, and the remaining number is Jordanian 02:29:11 Philippines-Emma Sarne: In addition, the PH government, in coordination with local governments have incorporated a gender dimension to the repatriation. Specific programs for returning female migrants workers were established, particularly in providing them with livelihood skills and business starts kits to enable them to establish their own businesses or use the skills they have learned for local employment 02:30:41 kaojaroenk: WHO has published in December 2020 a report of Preliminary overview of refugees and migrants self-reported impact of COVID-19. The report can be found at https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240017924 02:33:15 Irene de Lorenzo-Cáceres Cantero (UNICEF): Good morning! I work at UNICEF HQ. Thanks so much for such an interesting discussion, which UNICEF is very pleased to co-sponsor, and for spotlighting existing solutions and concrete practices! I would have a question for all panelists regarding examples of partnerships between local govts and youth-led organizations targeting both migrant & displaced youth AND local young people, particularly examples focusing on political participation & civic engagement or skilling that leads to real jobs & earning opportunities. The pandemic has shown how in many contexts young people are the ones in the frontlines leading on innovative solutions -- projects that with the right support by & partnerships with local stakeholders can be scaled up and achieve great impact. Thanks a lot in advance! 02:37:20 (S) Dr Karin Konig: If you are interested in the Vienna Monitoring of integraiton and diversity you can have a look here https://www.wien.gv.at/english/social/integration/facts-figures/monitoring.html 02:47:54 Gilda Borriello: If you have a question, write it in the chat for the last round of Q&A! 02:48:52 Alankrita Dayal, Program yoUr Future (PUF): SO happy to collaborate on such awesome initiatives.
